New York City / New Jersey FIRST is a regional office of FIRST, the 501c3 organization created by inventor Dean Kamen. The mission of FIRST is to help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to compete in the technologically-driven global economy.

FIRST offers four programs which constitute a K-12 sequence of co-curricular and/or extra-curricular activities in the areas of science and technology. All FIRST programs are organized around two basic components: Using robotics as the vehicle for engaging teams of students in the hands-on, minds-on creative process of technological innovation; and bringing communities together to celebrate the achievements of young men andwomen working smart in science and technology.
